When Dr. Alton was a child, she would bring home any animal in need, be they birds, turtles or dogs, to the consternation of her parents. Thus began her love of animals and her odyssey to become a veterinarian. Now, as an owner of GMAH and a practicing veterinarian for over 30 years, Dr. Alton finds the close relationships she forms with clients and their special four legged friends the most rewarding aspect of her professional life.
Graduating from Tufts School of Veterinary Medicine, she started her career in Massachusetts, moving to Vermont in 1990. Shortly thereafter, she settled in at GMAH and continues to feel honored to be part of such a caring veterinary family. Dr. Alton is especially interested in providing Preventive Care for her patients, allowing her to help all her patients live happy, healthy, long lives.
Outside of her professional duties, Dr. Alton enjoys knitting, birding, paddling/steering/coaching dragonboats, curling, playing handbells, spinning yarn, baking, gardening and kayaking. Married over 30 years to Ray, they share their home with a Bernese Mountain Dog-Kestrel, African Grey Parrots- Peanut and Sunflower, and Blue and Gold Macaw- BG; the birds all rescued from sad situations. Dr. Alton is a past president of the Vermont Veterinary Medical Association (VVMA), has been highlighted by Partners for Healthy Pets (Read it Here!) and was awarded the prestigious Dave Walker Award by the VVMA for her contributions and service to the Vermont veterinary community throughout her career.
